MVR 8 million has been allocated for the coastal protection works of Rasdhoo, from the MVR 106 million foreign aid granted by India.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that under the project, about 179 meters of the coast of Rasdhoo that has been subject to soil erosion will be protected. They added that since the area was previously used as a land fill, waste had been falling into the ocean and contaminating the surrounding waters, demanding a quick solution to the issue at hand.
India agreed to provide foreign aid to the Maldives for socio-economic development during the meetings held by Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj's visit in March.
