Former President Mohamed Nasheed has requested the Ministry of Finance to make cuts from his share of former President's allowances.

President Nasheed is currently serving as the Speaker of Parliament.

Former President's receive an allowance of MVR 75,000 along with a budget for office expenses at MVR 87,000 and an accommodation allowance of MVR 10,000 a month as mandated by the law.

In addition to said expenses, as the Speaker of Parliament, President Nasheed receives an additional MVR 73,000 as salary. With that, he receives MVR 245,125 per month.

President Nasheed had requested to only receive the allowances for office and security from his share of allowances for former Presidents. As per his wish, the Parliament has now informed the Ministry of Finance on the issue.
