Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the negligence of current Attorney General in upholding the rule of law is a serious issue.

He noted that no AG should not be able to challenge the courts and mess around the judiciary at the wish of the government.

When JSC ruled to suspend Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi over an ongoing case, the Supreme Court had ordered all government institutions to refrain from taking any actions against Justice Abdulla. A rebuttal to the SC ruling from JSC noted that the order obstructs JSC's mandate to enforce the rule of law, and hence their ruling to suspend Justice Abdulla remains effective.

While the issue between JSC and the Supreme Court escalated, relevant figures were summoned to the Parliament Committee on National Security and questioned regarding the matter.

During the committee meeting, AG Ibrahim Riffath noted that the Supreme Court's interferences in such cases needs to be stopped by any means, even if it meant bringing changes to existing laws. He had requested the Parliament to bring necessary changes to loopholes in order to carry out judicial reform works.
