Ibrahim Hujan and Aishath Nahufa have secured the first places in the selection trials for the 7th Carrom World Cup, which will be held in the Maldives from 2–6 December.
The Maldives previously hosted the Carrom World Cup in 2014. This year, the competition will be held at Barceló and Nasandhura, with a 10-member squad from the Maldives — five men and five women — set to compete in the tournament.
The national selection trials took place at the Hulhumalé Carrom Hall this month, with 31 men and 18 women competing.
In the men’s category, Hujan won his place after defeating Ismail Azmeen 2–1 in the first round. Although Azmeen dominated the opening set 25–0, Hujan fought back strongly, taking the next two sets 21–20 and 21–19.
In the women’s category, Nahufa booked her place with a straight-sets victory over Aiminath Vidhadh, winning 25–9 and 25–4.
The Carrom World Cup will bring together top players from around the world, and the Maldivian team is now preparing to showcase their skills on the international stage.
