President of the Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom), Mohamed Shaheeb has said that their Vice President, Ismail Sofwan, has been collecting his monthly paycheck of MVR 40,000 without going to work for the past eight months.
Shaheeb made the statement yesterday at the Parliament Committee for Independent Institutes after the Members of the Commission were summoned.
He said that Sofwan has not been coming to work since the Presidential Election 2018 but he has been collecting his paycheck monthly. The Vice President of the Commission receives MVR 43,000 per month with allowances.
When asked why the salary is being given even though he is not coming to work, Shaheeb said that the Commission is powerless to freeze the salary of a member of the Broadcasting Commission. However, the relevant authorities have been notified of the situation.
Shaheeb said that the situation was notified to the Speaker of the Parliament and the President in November. And the response was to send the attendance of all the members of the Commission and that information too has been forwarded. However, there have been no response for the Speaker of the Parliament.
Sofwan has resigned from his position as the Vice President this week but did not resign from his position as a member of the Commission. And so, he still receives a monthly of MVR 40,000 as a member of the Commission.
