Chair of the Committee on Independent Institutes, the MP for Meedhoo constituency, Rozaina Adam, has said that the cases against the President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Hassan Luthufee and the Vice President of the Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom), Ismail Sofwan who has been collecting paychecks despite being absent from work.

Members of the ACC and BroadCom were summoned to the parliament on independent committee last week. At the ACC inquiry, members said that the President of ACC has not been coming to the office since 15 April 2019 however the Commission has been paying the monthly salary. ACC said that there is no legal authority to hold a salary.

In the committee session with BroadCom, members said that their Vice President until 13 June has not been coming to the office for the last eight months yet collected his monthly paychecks as there is no regulation to deduct the salary.

In an interview with One Online, MP Rozaina said that the two institutes have been ordered to send in their member’s attendance registry by tomorrow and the idea is to have the cases investigated by the financial committee before making a decision.

A compound amount of about MVR 100,000 were being paid from the state budget to the resigned VP of the BroadCom, Ismail Sofwan and the President of the ACC, Hassan Luthufee, who is still officially in the position.
