New Radiant Sports Club claimed a convincing win over Biss Buru Sports Club in the FAM Women’s Football League match held at Henveiru Stadium.
This year marks the return of the women’s league after a long pause, with the Maldives hosting its first official women’s football tournament since 2014. Six teams are competing: Audi Sports Club, Maziya Sports and Recreation, New Radiant Sports Club, TC Sports Club, Victory Sports Club and Bisburu Sports Club.
Audi Sports Club currently lead the table, followed by Victory Sports Club. New Radiant sit in third place, while Maziya and TC Sports Club occupy the lower positions, with TC losing both of its matches so far.
New Radiant dominated the game early, scoring three goals in the first half through Mariyam Noora, Maisha Abdul Hannan and Fathimath Faiha Ali. Although Maisha missed a penalty shortly after the break, the team added three more goals, with Maisha and captain Fadhwa Zahir contributing to the tally.
The next Women’s Football League match is scheduled for Wednesday evening.
