The Maldivian men’s national futsal team has finalised its squad for the SAFF Futsal Championship, which will be held in Thailand from 13 to 26 of this month.
The team has been training in China since last month under the guidance of head coach Farrukh Zakirov of Uzbekistan. An initial training camp involved 17 players, but the final squad has been reduced to 14. The players left out are Mohamed Isaam, Ismail Wajeeh and goalkeeper Mohamed Lufsan.
During the training camp in China, Maldives lost its first two matches but finished the tour with a 2–2 draw. The team is scheduled to travel from China to Thailand within the next two days.
The tournament will take place in Nonthaburi, Thailand, with seven teams competing. Alongside Maldives, the participating nations are Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.
The Maldivian squad includes goalkeepers Ibrahim Najih and Zaidan Ahmed, along with Ali Shiyah, Ahmed Hameed, Ishaan Ibrahim, Hussain Shareef, Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Shafiu, Hussain Suhail, Huzaifat Rasheed, Ahmed Rahil Rasheed, Abdulla Junaid, Ali Haisam and Ali Shamaal Abdulla.
