The Maldives suffered an 11-1 defeat against India in their opening match of the SAFF Women's Futsal Championship in Nonthamburi, Thailand. The tournament, running until 27 January, features teams from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.

India dominated the match, with Hushboo Saroj scoring four goals, while Ritika Singh, Sonali Mondal, and Nishka Parkash each added two. Mithila Ramani also scored from a corner against Maldivian goalkeeper Mariyam Noora.

This match marked the Maldives women’s futsal team’s first appearance in an international competition. Limited access to indoor training facilities has been a challenge for the team. The Maldives will face Nepal in their second match on 15 January.
