Global oil prices rose sharply after a Singapore-flagged container ship travelling through the Strait of Hormuz was hit in a drone attack.
According to media reports citing US officials, the vessel, named Ever Lovely, was attacked near the coast of Oman, with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps alleged to be behind the strike.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations said the vessel's bridge sustained damage in the attack, which occurred about 7.5 nautical miles off Oman's Dahirah port. No injuries or environmental damage were reported.
Following the incident, the International Maritime Organization temporarily suspended an operation aimed at ensuring the safety of vessels in the area.
The attack also unsettled energy markets. Abu Dhabi's Murban crude rose to USD 69.06 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed to USD 75.26 per barrel. Market analysts warned that further disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could affect global oil supplies and lead to additional price increases.
