President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Members of Parliament and other influential figures cannot influence the allocation of flats and land under the government's housing schemes.
Speaking on the state broadcaster PSM's "Nation Chat" programme, the President said the government does not allow political influence in housing allocations and that applicants receive housing strictly according to the points they earn through the application process.
He said MPs themselves are aware that they cannot secure flats or plots of land for constituents through influence, adding that Housing Ministry officials and senior authorities are also unable to intervene in the allocation process.
The President said the government is working to provide a lasting solution to the country's housing challenges through its "Housing for All" policy. The Ministry of Housing has begun verifying information submitted by applicants.
According to the ministry, more than 57,000 applications have been submitted, including over 35,900 applications for flats and more than 22,000 applications for land plots. The government aims to complete and hand over ongoing housing projects within the remaining two years of its term.
