The Maldivian government has denied reports that it plans to establish a Maldivian consulate in Bengaluru and an Indian consulate in Addu City.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said reports circulating in local media about the proposed consulates were false.

The ministry said no decision has been made to establish a foreign consulate in an island other than Malé. Any such decision will be made following consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The ministry also urged media outlets and social media users to share accurate and responsible information to protect public awareness and social harmony.
