President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of congratulations to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen upon being elected as the President of the European Commission.

“I extend warm congratulations and good wishes to you on your election as the President of the European Commission. The Maldives and the European Union have had enduring relations underscored by good-will and friendship. The Government and the people of Maldives join me in expressing our sincere appreciation for the valuable contributions made by the European Union for the socio-economic and sustainable development of the Maldives," the message read.

In his message, President Solih noted that he looked forward to working closely with her towards enhancing current levels of cooperation and added that he was confident that under her able leadership, we can explore new avenues of mutual interest to find solutions to shared challenges.
