The Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ahmed Naseer, has resigned from the position.
Governor Naseer met with the employees of MMA before his resignation.
Talking to One Online, the Spokesperson of the President, Ibrahim Hoodh confirmed that the MMA Governor has sent in a letter of resignation.
While Naseer has resigned today, he has been accused on a number of charges in connection with the MMPRC Corruption Scandal including influencing the work of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to stop the corruption of MMPRC.
Naseer was summoned to the parliament committee for questioning in relation to the MMPRC Scandal.
Making the accusation, the former Head of the FIU, Abdulla Ashraf said that Naseer met with him on the terrace of the MMA Building and asked him not to bring his phone. At the meeting, Naseer allegedly asked Ashraf not to send high profile cases against prominent figures so close to the Presidential Election.
Ashraf said that Naseer has influenced the work of FIU during his tenure as the head of the department.
