Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb is under arrest and that he is being brought back to the Maldives under their custody.
Police did not comment on the case further.
Their confirmation comes hours after Indian media reports had claimed that Adeeb had been handed over to a Maldivian security team, which was also reported by local media in the Maldives.
Answering questions raised by local media, Police Media Head said that they will comment on the matter as much necessary whenever it is required. However many medias have questioned their conduct in the case and had been calling them out for being silent over the escape attempt of Adeeb.
News of Adeeb’s arrest was reported by media this morning, information of which was relayed by Indian Authorities to their media.
According to Indian media reports, Adeeb along with the crew of the tugboat in which he traveled to India were handed over to Maldivian security personnel at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
The Maldivian team of security personnel had arrived to receive Adeeb midnight last night. After the required procedure was complete, Adeeb was handed over to them around 1:00am.
