Supreme Court has given the former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, seven days to appointed a lawyer.

The court gave the duration of appointment today at the hearing this morning.

At the hearing, the state requested that a decision be made regarding the former Vice President’s detention and requested that he be kept in custody until the end of the trial. The Supreme Court said that a decision will be made and announced later today or tomorrow.

Adeeb was arrested on 1 August after an attempt to illegally enter India. He was returned back to the country on 3 August.

Maldivian authorities brought Adeeb back on put him in front of the judge at the Criminal Court and was freed before issuing an arrest order after the police requested an arrest for leaving the country while his passport was withheld by the state.

Following the arrest, the Criminal Court ruled Adeeb to 15 days in state detention.
