The family of a 13-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her stepfather has accused the Maldives Police Service of negligence in investigating the case.
A member of the family has taken to social media stating that the case was reported to the police on 29 July 2019 and they have not received much support from the police. The person said that the girl had to facing sexual assault from the stepfather for the past three years.
It is recounted that the police took the statement from the person who reported the case and the following day, they took a statement from the victim. However, they were then notified that the case had been closed. And when they reached out to the Family and Child Protection Department of the police, they were informed that the message was sent by mistake.
