Statistics from the previous week has shown a rise in traffic stickers due to parking violations.
Weekly statistics from the Traffic Management Department of the Maldives Police Service released for the duration from 17-23 August 2019 show that 769 vehicles were issued traffic stickers for parking violations.
It is a significant increase compared to the 44 parking violations from 10-16 August.
This past week saw a total of 43 traffic collisions injuring 13 people according to the police and the driving license of 13 person has been withheld in connection to them.
While 107 cases of driving without the license in possession have been noted, 140 cases of driving by persons who does not possess a driving license have been noted by the police along with 17 cases of violating traffic signs.
Police statistics also show 38 cases of driving while on the phone and seven cases driving while smoking along with 22 cases of driving on the highway without a helmet.
And 47 vehicles were towed for illegal parking with 52 cases of speeding was noted in the past week's statistics.
Traffic police also stopped and checked 557 vehicles to see if they had valid permits.
