Parliament on Wednesday dismissed Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi, in accordance to the report submitted by the Judiciary Committee after the JSC submitted to impeach the Judge to the Parliament.
Justice Didi becomes the first Supreme Court Justice to be impeached by the current session of the Parliament. He was impeached with the votes of 72 members out of the present 75.
The Constitution states that a judge can only be dismissed by the majority vote of two-thirds of parliament, which is based on a submission by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The report submitted by JSC for the dismissal of the judge noted nine points against him.
Said allegations against Justice Didi include accepting bribes to rule in favour of a suspect in the MMPRC Corruption Scandal, ruling in favor of suspects in the case of Rilwan as well as many others.
JSC noted that the written defense provided by Justice Didi prompted no reason to bring any changes to the investigative report that the commission compiled after investigating the case against Justice Didi.
