The Sri Lankan cabinet has passed to sign a visa agreement with the Maldives to grant 90-day on arrival visa to Maldivians.

Sri Lanka’s The Sunday Times reported that the agreement will be signed during Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s official visit to the Maldives.

The Sunday Times reported that the agreement would exempt citizens from each country from the obligation to obtain visas in respect of a stay not exceeding 90 days from the point of entry, provided they are in possession of a valid passport and sufficient funds to support their stay.

As part of the agreement, Sri Lanka and the Maldives would also grant multiple-entry student visas for those enrolled in study programs at government-recognized educational institutions for the duration of their academic course.

The current visa agreement with Sri Lanka grants a 30-day on arrival visa with the opportunity to extend it by 90 days.
