Parliament has passed to appoint Dr. Azmiralda Zahir (M. Seena) and Aisthath Shujoon (M. Kokaahandhuvaru) to the Supreme Court in a historic decision.

The decision to appoint them to the Supreme Court was passed with the vote of 62 members out of 65 who were present in the sitting.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted the two names to be appointed to the Supreme Court bench on August 26.

With this decision, Azmiralda and Shujune has made history as the first female judges to be appointed to the Top Court.

Their names were sent to the Parliament after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) consulted President Solih to appoint the two to the Supreme Court bench.

The President shall appoint the two to the Supreme Court within seven days after the Parliament approves the nomination.
