Maldives Police Service has said that there has been no indication towards a risk to the security of the Speaker of Parliament, the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed.

A statement from the police said that they are working with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on the matters that requires it when concerning security after assessing possible threats. And currently, there are no indications of a threat to the Speaker of Parliament.

Police assured that that if the family, friends or social media indicates towards a threat, it will be assessed and actions will be taken accordingly.

In the press statement, the police did not directly say that they are not spying on the former President.
