The trial of the former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor regarding his attempt to flee the country on a tugboat, is set to begin at the Criminal Court today.
A hearing in the case sent to court the by the Prosecutor General is set to take place at 11:30 a.m. today.
Adeeb tried to flee on the Indian vessel named “Vaago 9” in August 2019 and was stopped by Indian authorities during an attempt to enter the country at Tuticorin while impersonating a crewman.
The former Vice President attempted to flee the country after the sentences against him were overruled and the cases against were reopened for investigation.
Currently, Adeeb is being charged with attempted fleeing from the country after his passport was seized on the order of the Supreme Court.
Following his arrest after the attempt to escape, Adeeb was detained in police custody before being released with an ankle monitor.
