The MP for Thulusdhoo constituency, Ibrahim Naseem, has said that a student at the Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi school is being raped by the student’s uncle.

He made the statement today at the parliament floor during the debate on regarding the child in custody of alleged sexual abuser, Ahmed Hishan.

And he said that the abuse of the student by an uncle on the father’s side is being suppressed in the island because the it is the father’s brother that runs the father’s business.

MP Naseem said that the abuse is being covered up because the perpetrators have strong “connections”.

He said that if the government leaders take charge and talk to the students of the schools in the country, and ask if they are being threatened with fear, many such tales will surface.

Following the statement at the parliament floor by MP Naseem, the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed ordered the Parliament Secretary to contact the President of the Island Council, School Principal and the magistrates of the island court to verify the statement.
