President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that over 500 developmental projects would be carried out this year.

President Solih made the statement while speaking during the event to kick off Local Council Election Campaign by MDP.

In his speech, the President said that the current government came into existence to bring about a very necessary development for the citizens and that the main pledge by MDP was enforcing decentralisation laws and empowering the citizens. He stressed that his government has been successful in doing so.

He added that those who are elected to the council should give their utmost priority to working closely with the citizens and supporting the works of state projects.

President Solih highlighted that only 40 islands had a working sewerage and water system and stressed that as pledged, all inhabited islands will have them by the end of the next three years.

He further added that the decentralisation laws would be best effective if MDP members are elected to councils.
