While Tree Top Hospital has been given to the state for free to be used for emergencies during the Covid-19 Pandemic, it has been said that MVR 43 million is spent on running the monthly operations of the hospital that the Champa brothers hold majority share of.

A source familiar with the decision of the board revealed that they had decided that the owners will continue to spend USD 8.2 million or MVR 43 million on a monthly basis while giving the hospital for state needs during the pandemic.

The source also revealed that in the event state takes over the hospital for an emergency, owners will still spend on the needs of all 400 employees. These 400 employees include 38 doctors, 21 medical officers and 121 nurses. In addition to this, Tree Top owners also spend on the day to day operations to ensure a smooth run.

According to the source, the decision of the board was to let the state use the hospital to save Maldives from the dangerous situation of Covid-19 while the owners still spent on the expenditure.

Tree Top has given all their equipment and facilities to the government in addition to donating 150 protective wear. An additional 2,000 pieces of protective wear are also in the process of being donated.
