Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Alifu Atoll has gone under lock down after confirming that the person who tested positive for COVID-19 had direct contact with people in the city.
Talking to One Online today, the President of the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, Abdul Latheef Hassan said that the city went under lock down at 12 p.m. today.
He said that while the person who tested positive in Haa Alifu Uligan spent a lot of time in Kulhudhuffushi City, a person now in isolation in Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo also spend time in the city.
Uligan is currently under lock down after person who traveled to the island from Male’ City on 15 April before the lock down tested positive. And so, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has locked down other islands the vessel stopped on the way. HPA has said that 131 people connected to the person have been identified through contact tracing.
The Kulhudhuffushi City Council President said that similar to Male’ City, the general public is not allowed to go out on the streets during the lock down and deliveries from the ships are arranged as well. And people cannot disembark when visiting the city for cargo.
He said that permits have been given to finishing vessels and essential employees that need to work during the lock down.
The first case of COVID-19 in the Maldives outside of the capital and the tourist resorts were found in Uligan.
