Dr. Ibrahim Afzal has said that 41 percent of people who tests positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic.

Speaking during a press conference at the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC), Dr Afzal said that the most common age group who have tested positive for COVID-19 are between 12 years to 40 years.

He noted that 41% of these patients report no symptoms hence most of them go through a very mild illness.

The doctor further highlighted that most patients who do not show symptoms when testing positive also show no symptoms when they recover from the infection. However such patients pose a higher risk of infecting others.

Statistically 80% of positive patients show mild symptoms with some patients being asymptomatic. While they do not require hospitalisation, 20% of infections are estimated to require treatment at hospitals.
