Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has said that a large number of the expatriate community tested positive for COVID-19 due to their living condition in the country.

Speaking during a press conference at the NEOC, President of MRC Ali Naashid stated that they had expressed concern about expatriate living conditions before and that they repeat it once again. He noted that many of these places are unfit for humans to live and are in a way that will ease the spread of communicable diseases like COVID-19.

Naashid had called upon the government to even strenghten measures being taken to lockdown and quarantine such living spaces and to step up their measures in ensuring these spaces are a safe space.

Rec Crescent has also inspected two places where expatriates who test positive to COVID-19 are being taken to and have advised the government on what can be improved.
