The parliament sitting last night to amend the constitution, confrontations turned physical on the parliament floor and social distancing rules were broken amid the chaos.

As the sitting began, the MP for Naifaru constituency, Ahmed Shiyam started raising his voice which led to the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed to hold his name in contempt. After refusing to leave the floor following three counts, the MPs of MDP forced him out.

This heated confrontation turned physical among the MPs as MP Shiyam was forced out of the floor with minor injuries.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) authorized had authorized a parliament sitting where MPs would remain at least three feet apart. This distancing rule was broken during the chaos.

Both the MPs for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ahmed Eesa and MP for Thulhaadhoo constituency Hisaan Hassan were injured in the parliament sitting last night.
