The COVID-19 testing done at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has achieved a 100 percent score in WHO external quality assurance panel.
A tweet sent out by the hospital said that they achieved 100 percent accuracy on the unknown samples sent in for quality assurance thus confirming that the testing at IGMH meets international standard.
Initially, the samples for COVID-19 from the Maldives were sent abroad for testing. However, since 29 February, samples were being tested in the country starting with the IGMH laboratory.
Today, COVID-19 testing is done by the Forensic Laboratory of the Maldives Police Service and the largest private hospital in the country, ADK Hospital along with Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) as well with testing procedures set to begin at Kulhudhuffushi City next week.
With the capacity to test 1000 samples a day, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the Maldives has the highest testing rate per population in the region.
