Maldives Transport Authority has been moved to the old Star Cinema building.

An announcement of the state gazette said that starting from Tuesday, the Transport Authority will be operating at first floor of Chambeylivilaa in Maafannu district.

The Transport Authority was previously at Huravee Building but the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has begun clearing the building as its an old building that is starting to come apart.

In April, the Ministry started looking for places to move the offices at Huravee Building, which is over 30 years old.

Previously, a part of a balcony at Huravee Building collapsed on the road damaging a number of parked vehicles while repairs were made to prevent the collapse of a sheet.

Huravee Building was developed in the early days of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s presidency. The building was set to be vacated due to damages during the presidency of Mohamed Nasheed but it never came to fruition since there was no place to move the offices to.

The current government began bringing down the building and in September 2019, the Planning Ministry said that the work was delayed as there was nowhere to move the offices in the building.
