The Department of Immigration has revealed that Maldives recorded 1,700 tourist arrivals in July after the country reopened its borders on July 15th following a lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Statistics released by the Immigration Department show that 1,769 tourists arrived in the Maldives within 15 days after the border reopened.

The highest number of arrivals are so far from the United Kingdom (UK) with 258 tourist arrivals while the US came in second with 189 tourist arrivals. UAE came in third, while Europe followed with 370 tourist arrivals.

The government is aiming for 850,000 tourist arrivals by the end of 2020. There are over 150 resorts in the Maldives in operation, though only a handful of them had reopened.
