After Maldivian national dies of COVID-19 in the Maldives, the total number of COVID-related deaths in the country have gone up to 21.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that a 77-year-old local woman passed away this morning at 9:20 a.m. while undergoing treatment at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.

This is the fifth COVID-related death this month and the second COVID-related death reported in the Maldives in the past 24 hours.

So far, 16 locals and five foreign nationals have passed away due to the illness that consists of four Bangladeshi nationals and one person from the Philippines. The first COVID-related death in the Maldives was reported on 29 April 2020; an 83-year-old local woman.

The total number of people who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives has risen to 5,223.
