A crewman of a vessel that travels between Male’ City and Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru has tested positive for COVID-19.

Member of the Naifaru Island Council, Vidad Abdulla told One Online that the person who tested positive is a Bangladeshi national who works on the vessel, “Mega Aaru” that travels to Male’ City.

Vidad said that the person was tested four days ago due to exhibiting symptoms after arriving from the capital and he has been in home quarantine since exhibiting symptoms.

This is the first case of COVID-19 confirmed in Naifaru.

There has been a recent surge of people testing positive while in home quarantine as the number of people who test positive after traveling from Male’ City rises.
