The number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Maldives have risen to 22 after local woman passed away due to complications with the illness.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that a 61-year-old woman being treated at the ICU of Hulhumale’ Medical Facility passed away at 1:45 a.m. last night.

So far, 16 locals and five foreign nationals have passed away due to the illness that consists of four Bangladeshi nationals and one person from the Philippines. The first COVID-related death in the Maldives was reported on 29 April 2020; an 83-year-old local woman.

The total number of people who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives has risen to 5,223.
