A woman in home quarantine at Raa Atoll Hulhudhuffaaru has tested positive for COVID-19.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the 32-year-old local woman was confirmed positive when she was tested before being released from quarantine.
This is the second case of COVID-19 at the island this month.
The first case was also a woman who gave samples for testing in Male’ City on 6 August and traveled to Hulhudhuffaaru where she got the results. Since it has not been 14 days since she was confirmed positive, it is being regarded as an active case.
Statistics from the HPA show active cases in 12 islands including Hulhudhuffaaru.
They are Vaavu Atoll Fulidhoo, Thulusdhoo and Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru, Kudarikilu and Kamadhoo in Baa Atoll, Raa Atoll Hulhudhuffaaru, Haa Dhaalu Naavaidhoo, Kelaa, Ihavandhoo and Filladhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll along with Hithadhoo and Feydhoo in Addu City.
So far 5,679 cases of COVID-19 have been found in the Maldives with 3,208 people recovered and 2,449 people in treatment.
Meanwhile, 22 people have died including 17 locals, four Bangladeshi nationals and a person from Philippines.
