Goalkeeper of the national football team of Maldives, Mr. Imran Mohamed's team won the farewell retirement match played against the FAM team.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended the match where Imran's team won with a final score of 3 - 4 goals.
Prior to the commencement of the farewell match, President Solih had highlighted the achievements of Imran as the goalkeeper of the National Football Team and presented him with a plaque. Imran also presented the President with a Keeper's glove that he had used while playing for the National Football team.
While Imran played as his team's captain in the farewell retirement match, Real Madrid's former defender, the legendary Michel Salgado was the captain of the FAM team. In addition to that, one of the best former goalkeepers of Manchester United Peter Schmeichel was also at the match.
Imran's team at the match consisted of players that had played with Imran before, and included Assad Abdul Ghanee, Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey), Ali Umar, Ahmed Thariq (Tom), Mohamed Jameel, Mukhtar Naseer (2kilo), Ismail Mohamed (Isse), Mohamed Sifan (Kudattey), Mohamed Umair, Adam Abdul Latheef (Lacchey), Shah Ismail (Saya), Thoddoo Mohamed Nizam, Mohamed Ibrahim (Kappi), Ashraf Luthfy (Sampath) and Mausoom Abdul Ghafoor (Maasey). Imran's team was coached by his former coach, Yordan Stoykov, who gave Imran the opportunity to play in the Maldivian national football team in the year 2000.
The FAM team who played against Imran's team included players who had formerly played for the national football team as well as players who are currently playing for the team. The coach of the FAM team was current Minister for Tourism and former manager of the Maldives National Football Team, Mr. Ali Waheed.
In the initial stages of the match, the FAM team was seen as a dangerous team. The passes taken by former forward Mohamed Vildaan, Selgardo and Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Feydhoo Ibbe) should be noted. The only pass Imran had to defend was a head shot taken by Selgardo.
The FAM team scored the first goal of the match and gained the initial lead. With an assist from Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Feydhoo Ibbe), the first goal was scored by the coach of TC Sports Club and last season's 'Best Coach', Mohamed Nizam (Nizambe). At the time when Nizam got the pass within the penalty area, he was free.
Before the first half of the match ended, Imran's team had picked up the pace and improved playing; scoring three goals. While Ali Umar of Imran's team evened the score by scoring a goal with the assist of Ashfaq, Thoddoo Nizam was the player who gained the team its lead with an assist from Mukhtar Nseer (2kilo). In addition to that, Imran was able to increase the odds of staying in the lead for his team, by scoring a penalty kick awarded within the last 7 minutes of the first half of the match. FAM teams' goalkeeper at the time of Imran's penalty kick was former national football team player and Huriyya Sports Club star, Ishaq Easa. The first half of the match ended with Imran's team leading with a score of 1-3.
Ali Fasir (Sentey) scored a goal from the penalty area, 10 minutes after the beginning of the second half. The penalty was awarded due to a foul by Assad. The FAM team had been awarded a penalty. The goal was scored for the FAM team by team captain Selgado.
Imran's team further increased the window for the lead within the 22nd minute of the match with a goal scored by Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey). Ashfaq scored the goal by surpassing FAM team's goalkeeper Mohamed Shinaan (Naani) within the penalty area.
Approximately two minutes, following Ashfaq's goal, Feydhoo Ibbe playing for FAM scored the third goal for his team. Ibbe scored this goal within the penalty area of Imran's team, with an assist from Ali Fasir (Sentey). Imran sustained an injury within the last five minutes of the match while attempting to take the ball from Ali Fasir (Sentey). The player who then replaced Imran was former goalkeeper and current goalkeeper trainer Aslam Abdul Raheem.
After playing as the goalkeeper of the Maldives National Football team for 17 years, Imran Mohamed stopped playing about 2 years ago. Imran's first match with the Maldives National Football Team was when he was 19 years old and is currently 39 years of age. Imran has also expressed interest in playing in the matches of Club Football next season.
