Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid has said that strengthening the security of the Maldives and that of the Indian Ocean were discussed as part of the official talks with the USA.

Speaking during a press briefing after official talks between the US and the Maldives, Minister Shahid said that discussions on further strengthening the Maldivian defense system as well as defending the Maldives against terrorist attacks in the Indian Ocean took place during the meeting.

Minister Shahid additionally said that discussions regarding the security of the Indian Ocean were discussed, noting that the war for security is a long and hard one.

He stressed that the security of Maldives is directly linked with the security of the Indian Ocean and highlighted that a strong democracy could be established in the Maldives by ensuring the safety and security of the Indian Ocean.
