President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will seek to find a legal solution to start the Presidential term on 11 November as it was done in the past.
He made the remark responding to a question on Raajje TV’s “Fashaa Iru” program this morning.
Since 1968, 11 November is marked as the Republic Day and every year marks the year for the government at the time.
However, since the Supreme Court nullified the election in 2013, the Presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom began on 17 November. Since that each year for the government has been marked on that date.
Answering to a question regarding the matter, President Solih said that the actions of then President has caused a six-day delay to mark the year for the term of government. He said that he believes it should be marked on 11 November based on history and is following as such.
The President said that he would ensure that the term of government starts on 11 November and will find a legal solution to the issue.
But that requires eliminating some legal restrictions, according to the President.
