Maldives Correctional Service said today that former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb, was transferred back to prison due to violations of the terms of house arrest. Adeeb was taken to prison following court-orders house arrest after medical procedure.

A statement released by Correctional Services reiterated that all convicts granted house arrest and their guardians are required to sign paperwork stating the terms of the arrest. Correctional Services further reiterated that Adeeb was taken back to prison in accordance with section 17-F of the medical clause in the Prisons and Parole Act 14/2013. The statement said that arrangements have been made in prison in accordance with the clause to continue Adeeb's medical care.

The statement also said that Adeeb was under house arrest to recover from a medical procedure and that they found no health complications that prevented him from recovering in prison.
