Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has said that the target goal of bringing 100,000 tourists to the Maldives after the border reopening will be achieved tomorrow morning.

He made the remark on Twitter this morning stating that “In the morning of 12.12. 2020 we shall celebrate the arrival of 100,000th (One Hundred Thousandth) tourist since we reopened our borders.”

Statistics from the Tourism Ministry show 12,614 tourists visiting the Maldives in the first seven days of this December which is an average of 2042 tourists a day and spends 8.5 days in the country on average.

The highest number of tourists have visited from Russia followed by India since the borders were reopened.

Maldives is among the first countries to reopen its borders with a special guideline for tourist activity. The country reopened its borders on 15 July 2020 and the guesthouses were authorized to operate on 15 October. The guesthouses in the Male’ Area are set to be authorized on 14 December.
