The new academic year 2019 begins today with a total of 73,035 students in schools across Maldives.

An official of the Ministry of Education informed One Online today that there are more than 73,000 students in schools starting their academic year today.

The official reiterated that this encompasses students in Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to students in Grade 12 of Higher Secondary School.

The Ministry of Education said that studies are conducted at over 213 different schools across the country. They further added that 185 of those 213 schools will be conducting classes for Secondary Examinations. The amount of schools that will reportedly be conducting classes for Higher Secondary Examinations amount to 50 schools.

While studies have officially commenced today, schools have gone the extra mile to welcome new students and teachers to the new academic year.

Statistics of the Ministry of Education show that there are 9800 teachers working at schools. Within that, there are 7900 Maldivian teachers and 1900 foreign teachers this year.

The Ministry of Education had said earlier that the per centage of foreign teachers working in Maldives is smaller this year compared to previous years.
