Bank of Maldives (BML) has, yet again, blocked international foreign currency wallets.
The bank said that they blocked the digital wallets to prevent a high amount of USD going out of the country as there is a scarcity of US Dollars these days.
And so, international transfer platforms, including Skrill and Transferwise, has been blocked as so no transactions can be made through those services.
However, transactions can still be made from the digital wallets to the bank accounts. And as further ease to the public, money coming in that is below USD 500 is exempt from any extra charges.
BML said that they will be monitoring the transactions through their cards services and will be blocking transactions as necessary without a prior warning. The bank said that Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and the related government entities have been informed of their decision.
Previously, BML has blocked some of the digital wallet sites as well.
