A total of 118 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives raising the total number of cases to 15,614.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 87 people tested positive in the Male’ Area while 21 people tested positive in the atolls with another ten from the resorts.

While Monday saw 109 cases, followed by 145 cases on Tuesday, 143 cases on Wednesday and 106 cases yesterday, the daily number of cases have not gone below this entire week.

Although cases were lower in December 2020, an average of 50 new cases have been reported this January so far.

Meanwhile, 36 people have recovered from the illness in the past 24 hours and that there are 14,064 people recovered with 1,492 people are currently undergoing treatment including 142 people being treated at hospitals.

There have been 51 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives so far that consists of 44 locals, six Bangladeshi nationals and a Philippine national.
