Minister of Gender Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef said that policies are being compiled to cater for people with disabilities.

The Minister made the remark during a courtesy call visit with the Ambassador of Japan to Maldives, H.E Keiko Yanai.

The Gender Ministry has stated that Shidhatha noted during the meeting that Japan is a role model for this country in implementing policy that serves people with disabilities.

The Minister said that policies on serving people with disabilities are being compiled. She further noted that the archipelago geography of islands in Maldives need to be taken into account when considering the provision of fundamental and social services.

She said that Ministry currently needs Japan's aid in various areas, especially owed to the recent expansion of Ministry mandates.

The Ambassador of Japan to Maldives H.E Keiko Yanai said that the government of Japan gives high priority to protect women's rights and ensure equal opportunity for women in high levels of decision-making.

The Ambassador had also said that they are prepared to give aid to Maldives in these areas.
