The Chairman of State Trading Organization (STO), Hussain Salim, has resigned.

Salim has confirmed his resignation from STO, to One Online today.

Hussain Salim is the younger brother of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)'s leader Ahmed Siyam as well as a member of the MDA National council. Salim said that his resignation from STO was due to his intentions to run for the upcoming Parliamentary elections. He said that he personally believes that maintaining such a position at STO was not proper, while running for Parliament.

Salim noted that a Chairman of an organization such as STO should be able to devote plenty of time for the role. He said on that note, that people might not perceive STO in a positive light if he had began his campaign for Parliamentary elections while he remained Chairman. Salim said that it is of utmost importance that a people’s company such as STO should maintain the people’s trust and confidence at all times. He cited all these reasons as influencing his decision to resign as Chairman.

Salim has decided to run for a Parliamentary seat in the constituency of his birthplace Noonu Atoll Holhudhoo. He is currently visiting islands of this Atoll and carrying out his campaign activities.

Salim is also the current Managing Director of Sun Construction and Engineering - run under the Sun corporate umbrella. Salim had fulfilled the role as Chairman of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc. (MTCC), prior to the same role at public listed company - STO.

Salim is also currently pursuing a Masters Degree in the field of Business.
