The number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Maldives have risen to 69 after the report of a second COVID-19 related death today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that an 86-year-old local man who was taken to the Emergency Room at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital passed away at 4:20 p.m. today. HPA said that the patient had tested positive for COVID-19 marking it the most recent COVID-related death in the country.

An 82-year-old local women passed away this morning at 11:12 a.m. while being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital.

While 69 COVID-related deaths have been reported in the country, a nation-wide COVID vaccination program is well underway with over 274,000 receiving the first dose and the number of people who has received the second dose exceeding 28,000.

COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that include 62 locals, six Bangladeshi nationals and a Philippine national. The country reported its first COVID-related death on 29 April 2020 after an 83-year-old local women passed away.
