One of the biggest award shows, the Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, have just released their nominees. Netflix drama “Roma” and Fox Searchlight’s comedy, “The Favourite” are tied at the top with the most nominations.
The nominations for the 91 Academy Awards were announced yesterday. “Roma” and “The Favourite” snagged 10 nominations each. Both films are period dramas.
The Alfonso Cuaron -directed period flick “Roma” tells a story of a maid in a middle class family living in Mexico in the early 1970s.
The other period drama tied at the top with most nominations is the “The Favourite”, which was directed by Adam McKay. The film is a depiction of 18th century aristocrats vying to be court favorites of the monarch, Queen Anne.
While the award for “Best Picture” is the award show’s most coveted prize, both “Roma” and “The Favourite” have been nominated. Other flicks in the category include “Black Panther”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “BlacKkKlansmen”, “Green Book”, “A Star is Born” and “Vice”.
The nomination of “Black Panther” in the best movie category is historical. The movie is the first ever superhero flick to be nominated for the category.
