Former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, has once again been transferred from prison for treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Adeeb’s party, the Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) informed that Adeeb has been transferred to IGMH in an emergency and that he was unable to walk at the time. The Maldives Correctional Services were unable to be reached for a comment at this time.

A senior official of MTD informed One Online that Adeeb was taken to IGMH at 10 am this morning and that Correctional Services had notified Adeeb’s family upon the transfer.

The official reported that Adeeb had fainted, hit his head on a wall and that he had a swelling on his forehead due to this. The incident reportedly took place at prison around 1:30 am last night. The MTD official also informed that Correctional services had transferred Adeeb to the hospital after his nose began bleeding.

Following some time in prison after house arrest, Adeeb was taken to the hospital last, on 5 January 2019. Adeeb was then transferred back to prison on 19 january 2019.

The Maldives Correctional Services reported at that time that Adeeb was transferred back to prison following a discharge from the hospital. Family members of Adeeb however alleged that the transfer took place upon orders from the Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla.
